Handloom Charkha Kurtha Mid Yellow Stripe

• Fabric: Handwoven cotton from Charaka Weaver’s Society, Shimoga, Natural dyed

Charaka cotton is woven using yarns that are dyed with natural substances. The saree and fabric are renowned for the elegant simlicity of their design and the unmatched comfort they offer to the wearer.

Pomegranates seeds, areca nut, eucualypus leaves, indigo and turmeric are some of the natural ingredients that are used in the dyeing process.

Power looms imitated designs that were earlier done by the handloom weavers, and sold them at cheaperrates. With reduced demand and lower wages, the handloom weavers were forced to look for other jobs.

A community of about 100 weavers remain, who keep the authentic handloom fabric alive.
