Blue and Indigo Baluchar cotton Saree

In the 18th century, Murshidquali Khan, Nawab of Bengal patronized its rich weaving tradition and brought the craft of making this Baluchari from Dhaka to the Baluchar village in Murshidabad and encouraged the industry to flourish. An interesting feature of earlier Baluchari sarees was the stylized bird and animal motifs that were incorporated in paisley and other floral decorations. The silk yarn used at Baluchar is not twisted and therefore has a soft, heavy texture.
This baluchar cotton saree has a Blue color body with Indigo floral motifs woven and an indigo border. Pallu is intricately woven with various paisley and floral motifs
